Ward handed 5 week ban for Specman tackle
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
Cell C Sharks centre Jeremy Ward has received a 5 week ban from Super Rugby.
The 23-year-old centre was cited for a dangerous tackle on Bulls flyer Roscko Specman in their 37-14 loss to the Pretoria outfit last weekend.
The incident wasn’t referred during the match, with Ward being able to play on until he was replaced by Springbok centre Andre Esterhuizen in the second half. Ward was then cited, and given a 5 week ban.
According to SANZAAR, the incident could have seen Ward cop
an ultimate sanction of 10 weeks. But given his relative inexperience, his
remorse and an apology, his ban was reduced to 5 weeks.
‘Taking into account the player’s age, relative inexperience,
remorse, and the fact that he has pleaded guilty at the first available
opportunity, the foul play review committee reduced the suspension to five
weeks.’
