VIDEO: Sizzling sailfish battle

Hooking a sailfish on light tackle almost inevitably means a hectic tussle for both hunter and prey.

I recently posted a story about an angler who hooked two sailfish at the same time while fishing on a jet-ski off Umhlanga.

He somehow managed to land both.

Sailfish can reach swimming speeds of 110 kilometres per hour, can grow up to three metres in length and weigh up to around 90 kilograms.

They are acrobatic and powerful fighters.

Sailfish feed on other fish and squid.

Most anglers I know will only keep sailfish if the fish is badly hurt during the battle.

Captain Blair Wiggins shows in the footage below that he too prefers a catch-and-release philosophy.
