The bay also provided me with several other grunter over the years.

However, I caught most of my grunter in and around the estuary up at St Lucia on the KZN north coast.

That was before the link between the estuary and the ocean was broken.

I recall nights on the estuary where we caught dozens of grunter on a variety of baits.

These were almost all over 2kg and it really was both comfortable and easy fishing.

Fishing off the beach was a bit more tricky, but generally yielded even bigger grunter.

I am told anglers at Umkomaas enjoyed some excellent grunter success at the river mouth this year.

I was hoping to get footage from there, but in the end had to settle for footage from another famous grunter spot.
