VIDEO: Large gar hammers angler

The largest alligator gar I have heard of weighed 166 kilograms.

These fish are found in much of the southern USA and also in parts of Mexico.

Alligator gar have also been caught in Singapore and Malaysia.

Alligator gar have large teeth and their scales were sometimes used as jewelry by Native Americans.

These fish produce very poisonous eggs.

Alligator gar have been accused of attacks on humans, but there are no confirmed cases on record.

The gar is the hunted in the footage below.

Members of the Sportswave team will be chasing another fish with significant teeth at the Durban Ski Boat Festival later this month.

The largest couta at this contest will earn the successful angler a boat valued at R350 000.
