VIDEO: Grouper fishing action
Grouper can weigh over 400 kilograms and have massive mouths.
These fish tend to be found at reefs and wrecks.
They eat a variety of marine life including small sharks and juvenile sea turtles.
I remember grouper being caught on crab in Durban harbour back in the 1970s.
I also recall tales of grouper being hooked and lost off both North Pier and South Pier in Durban.
You can see two fine examples of this species at uShaka Marine World.
The grouper there are in the same tank as the large sharks.
