VIDEO: Countdown to Rio Olympics begins for Team SA
Updated | By Sky Tshabalala
Today marks 150 days until the world descends on the shores of Brazil. August this year Rio will open its doors to the best sportsman and woman in the planet.
With every Olympics that take place records are set and broken, tears of happiness and sadness are witnessed and new world heroes are made.
Team South Africa seems to be getting stronger and stronger every time they compete at the Olympics.
With a total of six Olympic medals (three gold, two silver, and one bronze). Among the nation's medalists were swimmers Cameron van der Burgh and Chad le Clos, who both won gold and silver medals in their events. Van der Burgh broke both an Olympic record and a world record in men's breaststroke swimming. Le Clos caused arguably one of the greatest shocks ever at the games beating Michael Phelps to win the 200m men Butterfly race.
For the first time in its history, South Africa won Olympic medals in rowing and in sprint canoeing.
SASCOC has put a target of 10 medals at this years event and to be honest I think we can claim more.
South Africans are known as a nation that never gives up especially on the sports field.
This video below gives you a taste of how good this amazing country delivers against all odds.
