VIDEO: Calico bass and treefish
Calico bass and treefish are two species that can be caught off the coast of southern California.
Today we see Captain Blair Wiggins leaving Florida behind to investigate fishing options on the west coast of the United States.
Wiggins and his guide drop lures into holes between clumps of drifting kelp.
Wiggins is looking to catch calico bass.
These fish can reach up to 72 centimetres in length and can live for a maximum of around 34 years.
Calico bass are considered excellent for eating.
Commercial fishing for this species has been illegal since the 1950s.
