The 22-year-old flanker is also an option at lock for the Sharks.

Vermeulen, born in Paarl, recently joined the Sharks from Western Province.

We chatted to Vermeulen.

Who was your favourite player growing up and why?

Schalk Burger. I think he is a world-class player.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Playing for the Junior Springboks in 2014 and 2015.

Which player would you love to play alongside?

Juan Smith.

Which player would you hate to play against?

Duane Vermeulen.

At what point did you decide that you wanted to become a professional rugby player?

The day I was offered my first contract.

What has been the most challening aspect of your career?

Injuries.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

No.

Which is your favourite stadium to play at besides Growthpoint Kings Park?

Newlands.

What do you plan to do after rugby?

Marketing.

What is your favourite movie?

There is a Zulu on my Stoep.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Struisbaai.

Where did you matriculate?

Paarl Gymnasium.

Who is your favourite singer or band?

What is your favourite meal?

Pizza.
