Following on from the Sharks township tour in the Currie Cup qualifiers last year, the team has decided to take the game back to Umlazi.

As a preseason fixture, the Sharks will field two separate teams in two matches against the Cheetahs - the first kicking off at 17h00 and the second at 18h30.

The matches will give coach Rob du Preez and his assistants a chance to assess their progress ahead of Super Rugby as well as gauge combinations and get a feel for what the younger players and new recruits can bring to the table this year.

Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann believes that taking the game out to Umlazi will do wonders for the growth of the game in the province.

“The Sharks on-going partnership with Durban Tourism seeks to enhance social cohesion and take rugby to our community and we are thrilled that we are once again able to deliver on our promise of expanding the profile of our game in new areas," Teichmann said.

“We trust that people in these areas as well as our fans travelling from outside those communities, embrace this match and make it a memorable rugby occasion for everyone involved.”

Fans wanting to travel from Durban can make use of a shuttle service from Growthpoint Kings Park - which will take spectators to Umlazi and back to Kings Park after the matches. The first bus departs Kings Park at 16h30 and the second bus at 18h00.  After the match the buses will return to the stadium at 21h00 and 22h00 respectively.

The main match will also be broadcast on Supersport at 18h30.
