Tributes after second Belgian player dies of cardiac arrest

Tributes have been pouring in for lower-league footballer Tim Nicot who has become the second Belgian player to die of cardiac arrest in the last two weeks.

Teammates and fans have taken to social media to offer their support to the Nicot family following the news.

The 23-year-old is said to have collapsed on Friday while playing for FCO Beerschot Wilrijk, who play in the fourth-tier in Belgium.

BBC Sport reports Nicot was placed in an induced coma and his club confirmed his death this morning.

Another Belgian player Gregory Mertens, 24, died two weeks ago, three days after collapsing during a reserves match.

His club, Wilrijk Beerschot, broke the news on Twitter this morning that Nicot had died and sent their condolences to his family.

Manchester City and Belgium youth team player Mathias Bossaerts says his thoughts are with Nicot's friends and family.

Teammate Antonio Muñoz-Herrera tweeted a tribute this morning after learning that Nicot has passed away.

Last night Muñoz-Herrera had tweetted,: ''Vamos amigo!!!! Keep fighting !! We love you brother!!

Belgian giants Anderlecht have also paid their respects.
