Snoek at Virginia and Blue Lagoon

Snoek at Virginia and Blue Lagoon

Anglers off Virginia and Blue Lagoon enjoyed good Natal snoek fishing over the past week or so.

North - Lots of rain over the last week has made for difficult fishing on the shallow reefs and on backline on our north coast. When the water did eventually clean up, there were good catches of Couta at almost every popular spot, running from Maphelane to Durban. Jaen Swart landed a 22kg Couta, a 14kg Couta, one under 10kgs, 2 good Yellowfin Tuna, a lovely Yellowbelly Rock Cod and a beautiful Swallowtail Rock Cod at Cape Vidal (both of which were released). Dorado have been slow to bite but are still around, taking live bait and surface lures. Wahoo and Tuna are still in full force at Zinkwazi and Westbrook, larger specimens of both species being landed on live bait and smaller fish on lures. Tinley Manor has been on fire over the last week and has produced a good few Couta over 20kgs, mainly on Walla Walla and live Shad.

Durban - Has fished exceptionally well for Snoek and Tuna, despite the bad weather spells, and has shown no signs of slowing down. Blue Lagoon, Virginia and La Mercy were all spots which held many Snoek over the last week. They were caught mostly on Strike Pro Magic Minnows in the ice cream colour, and on fillet baits with Pulsator Dusters. The weather did however turn bad and the sea was unpleasant to be on. In these conditions, backline becomes unpredictable and unreadable. Be careful. Stay deeper to avoid waves creeping up on you.

South - One of the truly amazing catches that can't go unmentioned, a massive Couta, believed to have tipped the scales at 40kgs, was caught on the KZN South Coast on Saturday by Bradley Turner. As if the size of the fish wasn't enough, Bradley managed to land this fish on his Paddle Ski. Bradley also managed to land a very nice Prodigal Son of 15kg too. Many other fish were landed down the coast over the last week. The list includes Couta, Snoek, Tuna and Wahoo. These were caught mostly on live bait and Kingfish Rattlers.

Alain Tardin and I are hoping to cash in this Friday.

Our jetski is ready for action and we have a few spots in mind...
