Slinger action off Warner Beach
Updated | By Staff Writer

North – Deep sea fishing on the north coast has been limited mainly to targeting tuna and queenfish. The weather has not been great for fishing, but there have been a couple of yellowfin tuna hooked on the bait marks. You can target these by using live baits or throwing plugs or bigger stick baits.
Once you hook into one, you should lock your drag and pull very hard. Otherwise it gets eaten by the sharks. Lures like Kingfisher Rattlers or McArthy drop shots are good bets for the queenfish.
South – Game fishing has not been very successful over the last week or so. There have been the odd yellowfin tuna off Protea Banks and a couple of Natal snoek off Greenpoint. The snoek have all been caught on fillet traces. We have received reports of kingfish activity on the Aliwal Shoal off Umkomaas, with live baits mainly doing the trick. Fish heavy leader, because this fish will certainly take you into the bricks. Good bottom fishing has been enjoyed off the Warner Beach area with slinger, rockcod and soldiers caught on strips of squid.
