Sharks versus Ulster postponed

This weekend’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship clash between the Cell C Sharks and Ulster has been postponed.

The match was supposed to form the backbone of the second Sharks Fest at Hollywoodbets Kings Park, however Ulster cannot field a full side for the clash.

In a statement from the Sharks, the Irish side has been hit by a gastroenteritis bug which ruled out a number of players set to start the fixture.

“The Round 6 Vodacom United Rugby Championship fixture involving the Cell C Sharks and Ulster has been postponed,” the statement read.

“According to the URC due to gastroenteritis infections in the Ulster camp they are unable to field a full playing squad.

“The league will now move to examine potential dates to reschedule the game and will provide an update in due course.

“The Sharks profusely apologise to all our fans and service providers for the inconvenience caused due to the postponement of the match at this late stage.”

The Sharks were going into the match with their strongest side of the competition with nine Springboks in the starting line-up.

They will now lose the bulk of their Springboks again as they prepare for the end of year tour from next week.

It's come to light that the Lions match versus the Glasgow Warriors has also been postponed.

In a statement from the URC they confirmed both matches are off and alternative dates are being explored.

"Due to gastroenteritis infections it is not possible for Ulster or Glasgow Warriors to field full playing squads," the competition statement said.

"In order to ensure a duty of care towards the players involved and given the medical advice received from all key stakeholders, the United Rugby Championship has made the decision to postpone the fixtures.

"The league will now move to examine potential dates to reschedule the games and will update in due course.
