Sharks given perfect bounce back opportunity

Following their devastating loss to the Bulls last weekend, the Cell C Sharks have the chance to put it right when they face the Stormers in the Rainbow Cup at Jonsson Kings Park on Saturday.

The loss to the Bulls was not expected to be as one-sided as it eventually turned out to be, however for Sharks flank Henco Venter, the result doesn’t make them a bad team.

"One result doesn’t define our team and we’re excited to fix that this against the Stormers,” Venter told the Sharks website.

“Rugby is a weekend game and the previous weekend we stopped 14 mauls against the Lions and we held them off with six men against eight.

“Yes, we had a slip-up, but we know what we need to do.”

This weekend’s showdown with the Stormers will be another tight tussle as the side from Cape Town registered their first win of the competition last Saturday.

The Sharks have beaten the Stormers already in the competition but Venter knows that that result won’t count for anything on Saturday.

“I don’t think it’s going to be easy, it’s going to be one heck of a fight and we need to be clinical every step of the way, fix our mistakes and capitalise when we can.”

Given the news that there will be a competition final where the winner from the Rainbow Cup SA will face the winner of the Pro14 Rainbow Cup gives the Sharks more incentive.

“If we win our remaining games we can win the competition and then we go overseas,” Venter reflected.

“They’ve made it more lucrative and exciting, and to be the best in South Africa is one thing, but to be the best in the Pro14 would be the icing on the cake.”

Kick off at Jonsson Kings Park this Saturday will be at 1pm.
