Sharks duo sent home early

Injuries have forced the Cell C Sharks to send scrumhalf Cobus Reinach and eighthman Philip van der Walt home early from their tour of New Zealand.

Both players, who have been in outstanding form this season, were forced from the field injured in the Sharks’ 15-14 win over the Highlanders last Friday.

Reinach looked to have injured his knee quite badly in the first half of the clash but it remains to be seen how long he will be side-lined.

Van der Walt was also laid low in the first half of the match. The eighthman took a heavy knock to the neck in a tackle and will also have scans when he returns to Durban.

Stefan Ungerer has replaced Reinach on tour while Giant Mtyanda will bolster the forward ranks in Van der Walt’s absence.

In the aftermath of Friday's match, Highlanders centre Jason Emery has been banned for four weeks. He was given a red-card for a dangerous mid-air challenge on Sharks fullback Willie le Roux. Emery was cited after the match and the subsequent hearing led to the four week ban.

The original suspension would have been six weeks but Emery's clean disciplinary record as well as his apology to Le Roux after the match saw him cop a lighter punishment.
