Shad title up for grabs
Updated | By Andre Bloem
The Kingfisher Shad Competition is still wide open with only two fish weighed thus far.
The first prize is sitting at a modest 0.6kgs so make sure that you get your fish in at The Kingfisher, Tackle Centre (Kingsmead) or The Fishing Tackle Shop (Warner Beach) in order to be in the hunt for the prize. The weather conditions are looking good and the tides are also playing their part and the coming weekend will hopefully produce some nice fish.
Bluff locals in the know seem to have worked out the winter shad pattern and their secret spots could produce the winning shad. Bluff beaches are also is still producing the odd kingfish - but live baits have been hard to find recently.
Blue Lagoon has produced some small shad, perch and juvenile grunter lately.
Anglers fishing on the Durban piers have had a fair run of shad, although most of these fish are still undersize. Snake Park pier has been the best spot along the Durban beachfront.
Toti deep water points such as Nyoni Rocks and Shad Place have produced some garrick. Live baits have been elusive though.
Your weekend weather is as follows:
Friday sees a maximum temperature of 24 degrees with SW winds swinging to variables later with some leftover swell for surfers to investigate.
Saturday will be sunny with a high of 26 degrees and fairly light variable winds blowing.
Sunday sees a change with a drop in maximum temperature to only 20 degrees with the possibility of some cool, wet weather and SW winds. Seafarers please note that there will be a big increase in the swell size on Sunday.
