SARU had little choice but to undertake a full review of the year’s shortcomings – as the Springboks slumped to eight losses in 12 games in Allister Coetzee’s first year as coach of the national side.

The executive council of SARU held interviews with three senior Springboks, namely Pat Lambie, Beast Mtawarira and Adriaan Strauss, who gave their accounts of what went on in the Springbok dressing room.

Coach Coetzee was also called into the board room to give his version of events.

The executive council has reviewed those interviews and have finally put together an action plan.

After a break over the festive season, SARU will release their plans for the year ahead.

Springboks fans will know more later next week, as SARU president Mark Alexander prepares to release the report.

“We have reviewed all aspects of 2016’s performance,” said Alexander.

“We have spoken to the players as well as the coach and critically reviewed the season.

“We have decided on a number of actions to make what we believe will be significant changes and will announce those as soon as possible.

“However, I would ask our supporters to have a little more patience and understand that certain conversations need to take place before formal announcements can be made.”
