SA Olympic team named

The team features athletes across 14 different disciplines, which include aquatics, athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, rowing, rugby sevens, sailing and triathlon.

Cameron van der Burgh and Chad le Clos headline at strong swimming team which will definitely have high hopes of picking up medals at the Olympics.

Wayde van Niekerk and Caster Semenya will carry the hopes of the South African athletics team, while you can't ignore names like Akani Simbine, Anaso Jobodwana, Irvette van Zyl and Carina Horn.

Bridgitte Hartley is the lone canoeist in the team.

The football teams features some big Bafana Bafana names including the highly experienced captain Itumeleng Khune.

Promising young golfer Brandon Stone and Jaco van Zyl will compete in the Olympic golf competition, alongside their lady teammates Paula Reto and Ashleigh Simon.

2012 gold medal light-weight fours rowers James Thompson and John Smith are in the rowing team and will bring age and experience to the team of 12.

Springbok fifteen stars Bryan Habana, Ryan Kankowski and Francois Hougaard were omitted from coach Neil Powell's squad. Werner Kok's return from injury has gone well and he was named in a strong, experienced Blitzbok squad.
