The South African Hockey Association says national players Jonty Robinson and team captain Austin Smith are being closely monitored in hospital following their contracting Dengue Fever.

They contracted the mosquito-borne illness during the World League Semi-Final tournament in Johor Bahru, Malaysia last week.

“Austin and Jonty were transferred on Sunday to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia] and have settled in nicely,” said SA Hockey Association CEO Marissa Langeni today. We felt the need to move them from Johor Bahru due to improved support from our various contacts in KL as well as the local medical staff. Our team doctor travelled with them and will remain with them until they are fit to travel.”

Smith and Robinson are having their blood count closely monitored and both are in good spirits. The duo will be released from hospital as soon as they have recovered.
