SA hockey men share the spoils in Durban

The South African men's hockey team and Austria drew 1-1 in the first test the four-test series in Durban last night.

Durban's Dan Sibbald gave the the home side the lead after he was assisted by debutante Mondli Dlamini.

The Europeans equalised through Michael Koeter at Queensmead.

A remarkable 13 players in the 24-man SA team either live in Durban or went to Durban and Pietermaritzburg schools or varsities.

The SA men are ranked 12th in the world while Austria are 23rd in the rankings.

The event is being hosted in Durban until Friday. 

The second test takes place at the same venue today.

Kick off at Queensmead is at 6pm this afternoon.
