Full road closure gives Durban Ultra athletes peace of mind
Updated | By Nick Tatham
The 2025 Durban Ultra Triathlon will once again offer participants with the perfect opportunity to enjoy the famous Durban surf as well as full road closures for their bike and run legs on Sunday, 27 July.

This year’s race will give athletes the ideal opportunity to test themselves across the various events that the Durban Ultra offers with the shorter sprint event, the Ultra and the standard.
The different distances are the perfect chance for people of various abilities to take part in a triathlon event. Whether that is getting into the sport, or chasing a personal best, the opportunity is there at the Durban Ultra.
“Entries are closing this week, and we encourage people to make sure they have got that entry in to avoid any disappointment,” race director Damian Bradley said.
“With the shorter distances on offer people don’t have to be as fit or need to have trained as hard for the event so we want you to get that entry in now and work towards the sprint of the Ultra distances.
“The Durban Ultra continues to be the friendliest and most inviting triathlon event, and we hope that the people turn out to take advantage of that.”
The race will incorporate a full road closure of the M4 North from Argyle Road to La Lucia Mall. From La Lucia until the Sibaya Circle the M4 will be closed both in the north and south direction for the athletes.
These road closures are an important part of keeping athletes safe and giving them value for money for the event. Logistically it’s a tricky process, however it’s crucial for the athletes to be safe throughout the event.
“It’s crucial that we offer full road closures for our events and it’s an element that people appreciate.
“We’re continuously in contact with the Municipality and we appreciate their support in helping us put on the best possible event.
“It’s going to be another fantastic opportunity for people to come and enjoy a beautiful morning on the iconic Durban beachfront and Golden Mile.
“The Durban Ultra is an event that wants to be seen as proudly local and we encourage people to come out and support the athletes,” Bradley added.
Elite athletes and recreational athletes will all enjoy the course that the organisers have set out as it tests all abilities.
