South Africa A are batting first after winning the toss in Wayanad.

Omphile Ramela is out for 112, Reeza Hendricks 50, Theunis de Bruyn 38 and Stiaan van Zyl 28.

Temba Bavuma is undefeated on 55.

The South Africa A team includes Quinton de Kock, Dane Piedt and Sunfoil Dolphins spinner Keshav Maharaj.

Ramela played by far the most significant innings of his representative career, going to his fifth first-class century before being dismissed shortly before the close of play for his 112 off 197 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes. Achieving a strike rate of more than 56 in what was his maiden first-class innings on the sub-continent is no mean achievement.

Ramela's career has gone from strength to strength since he became a regular fixture in the Cape Cobras line-up. In the Sunfoil Series last season he was the fifth leading run scorer with more than 700 runs at an average of 48, including back-to-back centuries against the Warriors and The Unlimited Titans, one of which was his maiden double century.

Faf du Plessis, meanwhile, is a major doubt for the one-day international series between South Africa and New Zealand.

Du Plessis is nursing a knee injury and seems likely to miss all three ODIs.

Farhaan Behardien now looks set to play in the opening match in Centurion tomorrow.
