Rafa hitting his straps ahead of Roland Garros

The Spanish star beat long-time rival Novak Djokovic in the final of the Rome Masters recently which has put him firmly in the favourites seat for the second major of the year.

Nadals record at Roland Garros is unrivalled with 100 wins and just two losses in the last 15 years of the competition but Nadal knows that anything can happen given what's happened this season.

"No-one is invincible, anywhere," Nadal told AFP.

"This year I lost (early) in Monte Carlo and Madrid. I hope not to lose here at Roland Garros. What I can do is fight."

The 34 year-old 20-time major championship winner is grateful that he's had the longevity he has given the injury problems he has suffered from.

"Ten years ago, I had so many physical problems that it was difficult for me to imagine that my career would last so long."

Nadal's warmed to the clay courts of the French capital over the years given he feels it is unlike any other tennis arena.

"At the beginning, I think I played better in Monte Carlo or in Rome, to be honest," Nadal added.

"It is more difficult to have a good feeling at Roland Garros, the court is very big and there are different sensations.

"I never had bad feelings here, but it is also true that I had very good feelings in other tournaments on this surface."

Nadal could not only wrap up a fourteenth French Open title this year but he could go ahead of Roger Federer with a 21st major championship.

Nadal will go into this year's French Open as the overwhelming favourite.
