That’s the view of South Africa captain, Faf Du Plessis who said that they would analyse where things went wrong but must ‘put all doubts to bed’ ahead of Sunday’s encounter against Bangladesh at the Oval.

“It is important for us to look at the World Cup for what it is,” Du Plessis said at the post match press conference.

“Today England were better than us in all three facets of the game. They showed why they are such a good cricket team.”

“Disappointed as we are, we have to make sure we learn from it quickly and put every single doubt to bed.”

Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the South African bowlers with 3-66 as England set a target of 312.

In response, Jofra Archer ripped through the Proteas top order, dismissing Aiden Markram and Du Plessis while a fiery bouncer forced Hashim Amla off after it struck him on the grille.

“The pitch was good enough to make a big score. Archer broke through our opening three and then it was always going to be big ask,” Du Plessis said.

“When you are chasing a big score, what you need is a good start and make sure you settle the batting. When you go three down on a big score like that you make it very difficult.”
