Plenty garrick at Port Shepstone

Anglers in and around Port Shepstone have enjoyed good garrick fishing over the past week.

Amanzimtoti - Much of the same from the previous weeks, with shad, garrick and blue rays throughout the week. Brown skates have been on and off the bite bit have been making good size. Red-eye or mackerel cutlets have been doing the trick.

Umkomaas - Grunter and kob have been caught on a fairly regular basis throughout the week, with good numbers of yellowfin kingies in the mix too. Most anglers have opted for medium sized chokka baits, but a few also took to the water with McArthy Paddletails and managed some nice kob and also some kingies. There is a large concentration of small shad on the south bank which is probably the cause for the high numbers of gamefish in the area.

Scottburgh - There have been a variety of fish being caught off the point, including some very big kingies, garrick and also sandies. Along with these, anglers have seen blue skates, brown skates and many grey sharks. Definitely the place to visit soon.

Port Shepstone - Plenty of garrick on live baits in the Port Shepstone area last week along with many k ob which have been caught on Rattlers, Rapala magnums and McArthy Paddletails. These fish need to be targeted in the white water if anglers are fishing during the day, as the cleaner less oxygenated water holds very few fish. At night time the fish tend to venture out of this area, but it is absolutely necessary to fit your baits with rattles to assist in the location of your bait.

Margate - Hundreds of shad along this stretch recently, slowly dying off in the rough seas. Bronze bream have made a huge appearance over the last week and anglers who managed to fish on Saturday caught some lovely size bronzies. Small kob and garrick have been caught throughout the day, but prefer the morning sessions. A Garrick of 15kg was caught on Sunday.

Port St John's - Still plenty of kob and garrick being caught on paddletails. Kob have also been smashing chokka baits during the evenings, close to ledges in the white water.
