A fisherman landed a huge 40.2 kilogram king mackerel on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast over the past weekend.

Brad Turner, fishing off a fishing ski, caught the monster couta in the backline off Mtwalume on Saturday.

Turner used a dead mackerel as bait.

A couta of this size is not caught in KZN very often.

It certainly would be awesome to catch a similar fish at the Durban Ski Boat Festival next month.

The competition, hosted by Durban Ski Boat Club, offers a prize valued at R350 000 for the biggest couta landed.

Alain Tardin, Mak Dlamini and I are planning to fish in the Durban Ski Boat Festival on 26 and 27 April.

We suspect a couta significantly smaller than this one could prove good enough to secure the title off Durban.
