Olympic change may benefit SA
Updated | By Staff Writer

The International Olympic Committee has approved a new bidding process for both the summer and winter Olympics.
The change makes allowance for Games to be hosted in more than one city and to be shared by neighbouring countries.
This could allow cities like Durban and Johannesburg to launch bids that will see them sharing hosting rights.
Putting in bid proposals will now also cost less with the IOC picking up some of the bills.
This may again help a country like South Africa to deal with the financial implications of bidding for and hosting the Olympics.
The IOC has also decided to limit the number of athletes and not the number of sports to feature at the Olympics.
This should allow new and more sports at future Olympics, but will most likely require existing Olympic sports to reduce their number of events.
