Nigeria keep African dream alive

Nigeria kept African hopes alive at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil yesterday.

The Nigerians are the first African team to secure a last 16 spot at the Brazilian showpiece.

The Super Eagles finished second in Group G, the Argentines claimed top spot.

The two teams met in their final group fixture last night, the South American side defeated the African champions 3-2.

Lionel Messi found the back of the net twice for Argentina, Ahmed Musa also got a brace for Stephen Keshi's side.

Argentina will meet Switzerland in the last 16, while the Africans will take on France.

Algeria are in action today. They take on Russia for a spot in the second round.

Algeria are second in Group H on three points, while Belgium top the group with six points.
