Muirfield votes to allow women
Updated | By AFP
Scottish golf course, Muirfield, has voted to allow female members, which would allow the historic links to regain its status as a British Open venue.
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, which dates back to 1744, decided in favour of admitting women into their ranks by 498 votes to 123, club captain Henry Fairweather announced.
Muirfield has hosted the British Open 16 times, but was removed from the rotation of venues after a vote in 2016 that fell short of the two-thirds majority required to permit women members.
