More gold for Team SA in Glasgow

The completely new combination of Bobby Donnelly, Prince Neluonde and Petros Breitenbach accounted for New Zealand (19-17) and Australia (18-14) to make the final where they defended the gold from the Delhi Games.
The trio opened 2-0, but it was equal after four ends. However, winning six out of seven ends put the writing on the wall and the match was stopped an end short with South Africa in an unassailable lead.
Wayde van Niekerk commenced his campaign for a medal in the 400m on Monday morning on the second day of athletics at Hampden Stadium.
“Yeah lactic hit me”, said a despondent Van Niekerk after slowing on the home straight to qualify third in his heat in 46.87. “It’s top three so when I saw I was clearly third I didn’t really push it.”
“The time was quite slow, but that just means I can do better,” continued Van Neikerk who caught heat winner, Renny Quow, on the back straight. “Once I caught him I decided to stay with him and the Australian (Steven Solomon). I just wanted to qualify, it doesn't matter which lane I get in the semi-finals. I’d like to think I’ll do better tomorrow. I’ve rested up. So I think my body needed this activation, but I’ll go to the physios now and get more muscle work.”
