Awal loss an opportunity - Komphela

Maritzburg United head coach, Steve Komphela, believes the loss of Mohamed Awal is also an opportunity.

Awal recently left Team of Choice to play football in Saudi Arabia and Komphela is happy for the defender.

Komphela also said that there could well be reason for one of his current defenders to celebrate.

"We are proud that we worked with one of the people who are seen progressing their lives and that can only serve as an inspiration. We still have a lot of other central defenders with us. We've got John Pantsil, Kwanda Mngonyama, Tshepo Moloto and David Booysen. You can only play two. Mohamed has moved on, the club has made some business and it's an opportunity for those who are staying behind," he said.

Komphela mentioned Kwanda Mngonyama there and you may recall him getting Bafana Bafana call-ups recently.

Komphela said Mngonyama is a talented youngsters with great potential.

"Age is on his side. Like any other football player, we learn till we die. There's a lot that he has to learn. He's got a great personality, great technique and a lot of other things that you may need from a centre-back. He can learn with time and that comes along with experience. The fact that Shakes Mashaba called him is and indication that he saw some talent. Kwanda has been in big environments. He's been at Mamelodi Sundowns. He's worked with coaches like Gavin Hunt as well," Komphela added.

Team of Choice have an Absa Premiership date with Bidvest Wits tomorrow night.
