Miller guides Dolphins to win

David Miller struck form on his return to the Sunfoil Dolphins before Prenelan Subrayen claimed career-best figures to prevent an Albie Morkel-inspired The Unlimited Titans from chasing a tall total in the Ram Slam T20 clash at SuperSport Park.

Having endured a tough time with the Proteas in India, where his top score in six innings was 33, Miller was back to his destructive best as he smashed 62 not out from just 32 balls to power the Dolphins to 179 for four.

With the Titans limping to the halfway point of their innings on 67 for four a one-sided game looked to be on the cards, only for Morkel to slam seven sixes in a score of 67 from 34 balls.

However, the fact that he had no support from the other end because of Subrayen’s four scalps ultimately made the difference, leaving the Titans to finish on 173 for eight and give the Dolphins a six-run win.

The Dolphins innings was perfectly set up by their openers, with Morne van Wyk (41) and Cameron Delport (25) putting on 48 in the opening five overs.

That momentum was sustained by Van Wyk and Kevin Pietersen (22), and then broken when Morkel dismissed both men in successive overs.

Miller cleverly bided his time to begin with, and then used his full force to pummel two sixes and four fours in the last 10 balls of the innings.

Andile Phehlukwayo did the main damage in the first half of the Titans reply, dismissing Grant Mokoena and the in-form Heino Kuhn in his opening spell, before Subrayen came into his own in the second half.

Having already grabbed the key wicket of Quinton de Kock at the start of the innings, the 22-year-old chipped away at the Titans in his second spell, dismissing Farhaan Behardien and Chris Morris in successive overs, and then grabbed the wicket of Mangaliso Mosehle in his final over to finish with figures of 4 for 22.

That left Morkel to bat with the tail, and although he kept the big hits coming to keep the home side in the game, the task proved beyond even him.
