Mamelodi Sundowns seal third consecutive ABSA Premiership title

Mamelodi Sundowns clinched the ABSA Premiership title on the final day of the league to secure their third consecutive PSL title.

The final day of the COVID-19 affected ABSA Premiership season lived up to it's nail-biting expectations on Saturday as Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 3-nil win over Black Leopards to clinch the PSL title.
Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs went into the final round level on log points and AmaKhosi were top of the table due to their superior goal difference. The permutations meant that both teams were under immense pressure to secure wins in their respective matches in order to be crowned 2020 ABSA Premiership champions.
Chiefs had arguably less pressure, given that they just needed to secure the same result as Sundowns in order to claim the league title for the first time since 2013. Sundowns on the other hand needed to win and hope that Chiefs either draw or lose in the final round of matches.
AmaKhosi ended up playing to a 1-1 draw with Baroka FC, which handed Sundowns the ABSA Premiership title for the third year in a row, which is their third ‘La Decima’ in the club’s history.
While Kaizer Chiefs were left to stew over the sombre draw and their position as runners-up, Baroka celebrated the result which meant that they’d moved out of the automatic relegation places. Baroka will still have to play a promotion/relegation playoff, which gives them a final shot at remaining in the top flight.
