Lambie out for 6 to 8 weeks
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
Cell C Sharks captain Pat Lambie has been ruled out of action for up to 8 weeks.
The Sharks skipper was taken off the field in the first half of the 37-14 win over the Waratahs on Saturday. The flyhalf hurt his back in a tackle and scans have revealed a fractured vertebrae in his back.
Team doctor Alan Kourie confirmed the news late on Monday.
“It is difficult to say exactly how long the approximate length of recovery will be in Pat’s case, as he undergoes further scans today, but his return is estimated at six to eight weeks," Kourie said.
Lambie is expected to be back in action in time for a number of South African derbies.
Sharks flank Philip van der Walt will also be out of action this week. He suffered a nasty head clash on Saturday and has a fractured cheekbone. He could be back in action next week.
Franco Marais and Clement Poitrenaud were also injury concerns after the match, but they will be reassessed later this week.
