There was a dose of good news at Growthpoint Kings Park today as Pat Lambie reported back to training after seeing his doctor this morning.

The Cell C Sharks said Lambie was “fit and ready to play” via their Facebook page this afternoon – which bodes well for the Springboks ahead of the Rugby World Cup later this year.

Although Lambie has been out of action since April with a neck injury, he is expected to play a big role for the Springboks in the upcoming Rugby Championships before the global showpiece kicks off in October.

Speaking last week at the Sharks’ launch of their tourism partnership with the City of Durban, the pivot said he was looking forward to joining the Springboks in camp next week.

“We are getting together on the 29th of June. The Springbok squad will assemble in Joburg for a training camp for the week. Obviously with the Sharks not making the Super Rugby playoffs, it means there were a couple of weeks for guys to put in some extra conditioning work, rest up and recover from any bumps and bruises they might have picked up during the season,” Lambie said.

With so much time off the park since he last played in the Sharks' 52-10 loss to Crusaders in April, the 24-year-old said he was itching to play some rugby.

“It’s coming on eleven weeks now but it’s been a chance to get in some conditioning work,” Lambie said.

“I’ll be raring to go, I’m feeling fresh and strong and hopefully I can get some game time and prove myself and earn a spot in the 31 man squad that goes to the World Cup.”

There were fresh reports that Sharks lock Pieter-Steph du Toit had now officially signed with the Stormers. However the Sharks told East Coast Radio today that Du Toit has not yet made a decision regarding his future.

Meanwhile local club rugby is still on the go. The Fidelity Moor Cup continues tomorrow night with two big clashes on the cards.

Jonsson College Rovers host Nashua Durban Crusaders while SA Home Loans Durban Collegians travel down the South Coast to take on Amanzimtoti. Both those matches kick-off at 20h00.
