Lambie and Combrinck prominent
Patrick Lambie and Ruan Combrinck are promiment in the Vodacom SupeRugby stats this week.
The north-south derby between the Vodacom Bulls and the DHL Stormers did not disappoint as the Pretoria side clinched the victory in a nail-biting affair, while the Cell C Sharks and the Emirates Lions were in rampant form in their Vodacom Super Rugby victories over the weekend.
Sharks flyhalf Pat Lambie continued his stellar return to the field topping the points stats on the All Out Rugby App contributing 23 points in his side’s 53-0 annihilation of the Southern Kings scoring two five-pointers, slotting a penalty and converting five of his side’s eight tries.
Lambie was one of four South African players to score a brace of tries which included team-mate Paul Jordaan, Courtnall Skosan and Ruan Combrinck of the Lions.
Combrinck was equally valuable in his side’s 52-24 rout of the touring Jaguares of Argentina, where he kicked two penalties and a conversion for a contribution of 18 points.
The Force’s Matt Hodgson lead the Carries stats making 18 with Stormers centre Damian de Allende and Dane Haylett-Petty of the Force sharing second place with 16 apiece.
Combrinck, De Allende and Lions hooker Akker van der Merwe were among the top three players in the Defenders Beaten bracket with five.
Lions duo Jaco Kriel and Lionel Mapoe also managed to deceive the defense on four occasions for a share of fourth place with five other players.
Combrinck topped the Metres Run category with the 175 metres he covered on Saturday while Lambie followed behind him with 162m with team-mate Paul Jordaan making 128 running metres.
Stormers lock Pieter-Steph du Toit was like a bull in a china shop earning a third-placed spot with 16 Carries along with the Chiefs’ Damian McKenzie and Bernard Foley of the Waratahs.
Springbok stalwart and Stormers flanker Schalk Burger demonstrated that age was merely a number with his 13 carries.
Sharks speedster Lwazi Mvovo made the second most Clean Breaks of the weekend along with four other players with three each.
Winning three turnovers respectively, Bulls loosie Arno Botha and Sharks centre André Esterhuizen topped the category along with the Reds’ Liam Gill.
Bulls flanker Lappies Labuschagne did not only share second place in the Turnovers Won stats with among other Lions prop Corné Fourie but was a force on defense making 23 tackles.
He topped the tackles stats with team-mates RG Snyman and Jannes Kirsten claiming third place with 16 each.
