Kallis was out for 7 in the South African first innings.
He made scores of 5 and 0 in the first Test in Abu Dhabi.
Kallis has now gone 14 Test innings without a century.
His highest score since his last Test hundred is 60.
The Proteas ended the first day of the second Test on 128 for 3.
They lead Pakistan by 29 runs.
Graeme Smith is 67 not out.
Alviro Petersen is out for 26 and Dean Elgar 23.
Tahir had earlier caused the bulk of the damage as Pakistan were dismissed for 99.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat.
Tahir took 5 for 33 in his 13 overs.
Dale Steyn claimed 3 for 38.
Pakistan lead the series 1-0.
