Jordy wins and Travis not

Jordy Smith has won his first round heat at the Billabong Rio Pro.

The South African surfer defeated Kai Otton and Adam Melling on Thursday.

Travis Logie had to settle for second in a first round heat won by Glenn Hall.

Logie will face Kieren Perrow in the second round heats, while Smith has qualified directly for the third round action.

Kelly Slater, Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning all won their opening heats in Rio de Janeiro yesterday.
