Jordy through in California

Jordy Smith has reached the last 16 at the Vans US Open of Surfing in California.
Smith comfortably won his round of 24 heat at Huntington Beach on Thursday.
Others to win in the round of 24 were Adriano de Souza, Adrian Buchan, Kolohe Andino and Alejo Muniz.
Kelly Slater and Beyrick de Vries were less fortunate.
They failed to win their round of 24 heats and will now see action in the round of 24 elimination heats.
Slater will be up against Michel Bourez.
Umhlanga surfer, De Vries, will face Mitch Crews for a spot in the last 16.
Another South African surfer, Bianca Buitendag, will feature in the fourth round of the ladies contest in California.
Buitendag ended second in a third round heat won by world championship leader Tyler Wright.
