Last week the world number 15 was unvieled as the marque player for the LIV Golf Invitational to the surprise of many, however his latest move sees him completely cut ties with the PGA Tour.

With prize money that is second-to-none in golf, many players have been lured by the potential pay-outs on the rebel tour. For Johnson, it was a decision that he mulled over but believes it's the righy decision for his current position.

"I'm very thankful to the PGA Tour and everything that it's done for me... but this is something I felt was best for me and my family and I'm very excited about playing," he said via AFP.

"Right now, I've resigned my membership from the Tour. I'm going to play here for now and that's the plan," he added.

Johnson joins Kevin Na as players that have officially quit the PGA Tour while there are rumours that a number of other players taking part this week at the Centurion Club have also cut ties with the tour.
