Jobodwana in Beijing semi-finals
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
The former World Student Games gold medalist made the final for the first time in Moscow in 2013 where he lined up next to Usain Bolt.
Earlier in the week Jobodwana false-started in the 100m heats, a move that was said to be deliberate as ASA had incorrectly entered him in both short sprints, whereas he had only planned to focus on the 200m where he has a season and personal best of 20.04 seconds.
Akani Simbine qualified as the first of three fastest losers, giving South Africa two runners in the semis.
Usain Bolt powered out the blocks, but was cruising the last 60 to 70m to the line in 20.28 in his heat.
This seemed to motivate Justin Gatlin to go one better, winning the next heat in 20.19, which unquestionably assisted in pulling Simbine to his 20.23.
Another phenomenal race in the 400m hurdles final saw Nicholas Bett setting a new national record and claiming a first gold for Kenya in the event.
