Jet-ski fishing in Mozambique

Now in its seventh year the ever popular Racetech Yamaha Jet Ski Fishing Classic takes place once again next week just over our border in the sleepy town of Ponta do Ouro, Southern Mozambique.

Having attracted 132 jet-ski anglers last year and already on 128 entries this year, it is the biggest event of its kind in the world.

Jet-ski fishing has grown rapidly in popularity in South Africa and is an excellent way to target various species, as Andre Bloem found out last week when bagging his bomber Natal snoek off Umhlanga.

Last year's winner, Neal Govender, as well as inaugural champ and consistent top finisher, Clive Murphy, are notably absent this year due to work and other commitments. Neal is still trying his best to get to the comp and may still make it. However, the field is still extremely strong with many of the country's other top jet-ski anglers attending.

It is a catch, photo and release event meaning our impact on the fish species is very minimal. The points are worked out via a species and weight multiplier system. Some of the species that are caught include yellowfin tuna, wahoo and giant kingfish to name a few.
