Mahela Jayawardene is undefeated on 140.
It is his 34th Test century.
Angelo Mathews is out for 63.
Dale Steyn and JP Duminy have taken two wickets each.
South Africa won the opening Test.
A draw in Colombo will be enough for the Proteas to regain the world number one ranking.
