Lavanini hit Cheetahs centre, William Small-Smith, in the ribs with the knee as the player went over for the sides fourth try in the 25th minute of the game.

The 130kg second-rower was lucky not to get yellow card for the incident which would have left the team with just 12 players on the park, with the half-back pairing over Martin Landajo Nicolás Sánchez already in the bin.

The Argentine side came back from 24-3 down to edge the Cheetahs 34-33 and face the Sharks on Saturday evening in Durban.
