It’s an East Lake showdown for the FedEx Cup title
Updated | By Nick Tatham
An unprecedented PGA
Tour season comes down to four days at East Lake Golf Club as the world’s best thirty
players look to take home the Tour Championship this weekend while those at the
top of the standing hope to take the FedEx Cup home with them.

The season’s restart has seen back-to-back tournaments regularly for all the players hoping to win the FedEx Cup and it’s come down to this week’s competition as each of the thirty players will start on a specific number – Cup leader Dustin Johnson will start on Thursday on ten under par.
Spain’s John Rahm pulled off an epic victory over Johnson last week in a play-off for the ages and will start two shots behind his American counter-part this week. The 25-year-old knows its been a long season but it’s full focus this week in Atlanta.
“It’s easy to get tired here because it’s going to be hot and humid and give the amount of golf we’ve played,” Rahm said. “It’s going to be a battle but the good thing is that everything that we have done up until now doesn’t matter.
“It’s going to be a winner takes all situation and that makes the objective pretty clear.”
Rahm’s win at the BMW Championship last week in tough conditions will give him confidence going into this week’s tour ender, however he knows that he is going to have to keep his wits about him through the four rounds.
“This golf course is a challenge throughout and there isn’t one part of your game that can be off,” he mentioned about the challenge at East Lake.
“You need to hit the ball well and make sure your putting is on point as well and it’s a bit like last week in that you can’t have a weak spot and win it. You need to be right on top of your game.”
Another player that has won in recent weeks is Tour Championship rookie Colin Morikawa. The PGA Championship winner has ticked one box by making it to the tour ending finale, but he wants to go a step further and recreate Xander Schauffle’s win in 2017.
“It’s been a crazy few weeks with so much golf but I am just really glad to be here,” he said. “That was one of my goals but I want to go out there and win the tournament.
“It’s been a bit of an up-and-down few weeks of trying to learn how to play golf again after winning the PGA Championship!” he laughed.
“It has been a crazy ride since that win at the PGA (Championship) but I think
that things have settled down now and I’m ready to play some really good golf
this week.”
