In the immediate aftermath of the game, Gold was concerned about a couple of players.

Philip van der Walt and Etienne Oosthuizen took some heavy knocks during the game, while Dan du Preez had heavy contact on his hip. Lwazi Mvovo, who scored both of the Sharks tries, also had a bump to his back.

With a full week off from training, all of those players should be ready for the Sharks clash against the Lions on April 9.

Meanwhile the likes of regular captain Pat Lambie, Jacques Potgieter and Francois Kleinhans continue their rehabilitation from their respective injuries.

“It hasn’t changed but if anything with Patrick it will get better. I think when we come back from tour Patrick will be ready to play for us – around May,” Gold said.

Their upcoming clash with the Lions will serve as their send-off before their tour of New Zealand and Argentina and Gold said it was a crucial clash.

“We’ve spoken about this. The teams in our pool are the critical ones. It is a home game and an opportunity to avenge our performance against the Crusaders and right those things we haven’t got right,” Gold said.

“It’s going to be a huge game for us, another local derby against a South African team and team that is playing really good rugby. We’re looking forward to it but also for a bit of a break for the guys to get away. We’ll be back this weekend for training to put in the hard yards for the Lions.”

The Sharks host the Lions at Growthpoint Kings Park on April 9.
