Ho believes he has a good idea of who his main rivals will be.

"The runner-up from last year, Matthew Meyer, is a definite contender. He is very talented and pushed me all the way last year. Another one to watch is the Dutch swimmer Ferry Weertman. He is the Olympic 10-kilometre champion. I am in for heavy competition this year," said Ho.

Ho admits that he never expected to win the race seven times in a row.

"I would never have dreamed of winning seven in a row. I think my success in this event is definitely due to the hard work I have put it. I have also gained some very useful experience over the years," Ho added.

Ho says conditions are obviously unpredictable when tackling an open water swim like the Midmar.

"You never quite know what to expect. The wind tends to pick up in the afternoon and there is the possibility of an afternoon thunderstorm. I hope we miss the storm, but would not mind the wind sticking around. In the end one has to take it as it comes and I hope for a good challenge on the day," Ho concluded.
