Hlompo Kekana gets FIFA Puskas nomination

The 2016 FIFA Puskas award 10man Shortlist has been announced and Hlompo Kekana has made the cut.

The Award is for the best individual goal around the world for club or country.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana had never scored for his country before taking to the field against Cameroon in a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Yaounde, but he would break his duck in spectacular fashion.

The then 30-year-old would enter esteemed company – alongside the likes of David Beckham and Xabi Alonso – in an elite club, by having the audacity and technique to shoot and score from inside his own half. With trademark tenacity, Kekana won the ball from Cameroon’s Tony Tchani, looked up, and hit a powerful, gliding effort over stranded ‘keeper Ndy Assembe.
