Hilton host Sunfoil tournament

The 6th Sunfoil Township Tournament has commenced with an opening ceremony at the Hilton College last evening. The annual tournament which is specifically targeted at development in our African communities commence with Day 1 today 9 July-12 July 2013.
Hilton College are proud host of this tournamnet were over 288 aspirant cricket players will take part from all over KZN in two age groups (U/15 and U/19) hoping to be selected into one of the elite Sunfoil Township Teams, giving them the platform to compete against KZN traditional cricket schools.
Three provinces have travelled to KZN to participate in this tournament namely, Gauteng Township Schools, East London Township Schools (Border) and Western Province Township schools which symbolizes the growth of the tournament.
Shane Gaffney, Director of Sport at Hilton College said,” It is an honour and a privilege to welcome and host the 6th Sunfoil Township Tournament. Hilton College is delighted to be part of this tournament, which brings together some of the top cricketers from the township schools in and around South Africa. We are hoping that this tournament stays at Hilton in years to come.”
This cricket week will be a T20 format. All juniors will play in the morning and seniors in the afternoon. At the end of the tournament, the Sunfoil XI Invitation team will be selected and play against the Suncoast Dolphins Academy on Thursday the 11th.
The programme, which has drawn considerable praise from Cricket South Africa, and has been used as a template for other cricket franchises, has grown from strength to strength.
Six years ago, family owned Willowton Group, one of South Africa’s largest sunflower seed crushers and leading manufacturer of edible oils and margarines, partnered with the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union to develop the Sunfoil Township Cricket tournament.
