Golf caddy dies at Leopard Creek
Spanish golfer Carlos Pigem has had to put a personal tragedy aside today and opted to continue playing in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek following the death of his caddy.
Pigem has had to use a local club caddie since yesterday after his caddie, the Argentinian Pedro Ramseyer (60) was found dead in his guesthouse.
He died of a heart attack.
Pigem opted against withdrawing from the tournament and went out and carded a 3 under par 69 today, to lie joint 7th on the leader board.
Ramseyer was an experienced golf caddie, having also caddied for the late Seve Ballesteros for three years.
The Spaniard, who predominantly campaigns on the Asian Tour, says he's surprised he's managed to maintain a consistently high level of golf.
He says despite only being with the experienced Ramseyer for only a short period of time, they had built an affinity for one another.
It's not the first time that the 26-year-old Spanish professional has had to deal with personal grief on the golf course.
"Last year I was in a tournament and my grandfather died the day before. I played really well. The tournament was for him and I hope that this weekend will be the same. The tournament will be for Pedro."
